Ducktrap Harbor

Buffleheads
Ducktrap Harbor, where river meets the sea, can be interesting any time of year but particularly in winter. It is usually ice free and it can be scanned from a warm car on a cold day. Cormorants, Red-breasted Mergansers, Common Goldeneyes, and Buffleheads often sneak into its sheltered calm. A spotting scope is useful for birds offshore. In migration, other waterfowl provide a steady stream of surprises.

Directions: The small harbor is obvious from Route 1 just north of Lincolnville. Turn down Howe Point Road and park in the small lot.
