Moosehead through Western Maine now being prioritized.

The Maine Birding Trail working group is prioritizing sites in Maine for official trail designation. With the support of a Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund grant, the Maine Department of Conservation expects to produce brochures within the year. Birders familiar with the Moosehead Lake area or Western Maine are encouraged to offer their own opinions on the best sites to be included. In all, about 80 sites are likely to be included on the official Maine Birding Trail and about 12 will be from this area. Sites that have been reviewed and drafted are described below. Other sites have been recommended and will be reviewed this spring. This area is a challenge because the area is lightly birded and sites are often ill-defined. Some of the best birding is done merely along logging roads in boreal habitat areas.  Please check off sites that you believe are sufficiently interesting to provide natives and visitors an excellent birding experience. Add additional comments below. Add name and e-mail address, if desired. Otherwise, submissions are anonymous.
