It's easy to match Moosehead accommodations to your adventure style. You won't find grand resort hotels here, but there are several inns that offer unsurpassed elegance. On the rustic side of the spectrum, lodges and sporting camps proliferate around Moosehead Lake. This is an area intimately familiar to Henry David Thoreau and much of the lumberjacking wilderness still remains.

Lakeside cottages are readily available. For the budget conscious, several inexpensive motels are on hand, and the camping is excellent. Stay at Lily Bay State Park, one of the commercial campgrounds, or even venture into the primitive sites of the Maine North Woods Association.

Look below for our recommendations. We also recommend the Maine Innkeepers Association and the Maine Sporting Camps Association.

Naturally, most of the accommodations are clustered around Greenville, the hub of Moosehead Lake. Besides the amenities, make your choices based on these geographical considerations: If you hope to visit more of the state, including the coast, chose accommodations in Greenville or south to Dover-Foxcroft. If you prefer to explore the semi-wilderness, choose a more northern location. Boreal habitat (good for Spruce Grouse, Black-backed Woodpecker, Boreal Chickadee, and Gray Jay) is found along the Shirley Bog road south of Greenville Junction, north around Pittston Farm and Spencer Pond Camps, and east toward Brownville Junction. The west side of the lake is nearer routes to the Kennebec River valley of Bingham-Jackman. The east side is closer to Brownville Junction and routes to Baxter State Park and Mt. Katahdin.
