info about birding in the state. Paul Garrity's site
contains good lists and birder resources.

Colby College hosts the state's e-mail list
serve that enables enthusiasts to post
and receive immediate alerts on unusual sightings. This listserv is the primary e-mail alert in the
state.

Maine Audubon offers numerous field
trips and programs - including international tours and field
ornithology camps. Maine Audubon operates under the umbrella
of National Audubon.
- Several chapters of Maine Audubon
also have sites with information about chapter-led field
trips and programs. These include the
Penobscot Valley
Chapter in the Bangor area,
York County Audubon in Southern
Maine,
Merrymeeting Audubon in the lower Midcoast area north
of Portland and
Midcoast Audubon in the upper Midcoast area,
just south of Acadia.
- Derek Lovitch and family run the
Freeport Wild Bird Supply
in Freeport. They lead local birding trips
and several national and international tours.
- The
Stanton Bird Club is an
independent birding organization that is steward of the
Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary in Lewiston (Central Cities
region).
- The
Orono Bog Walk is a fabulous
new boardwalk across a raised peat bog adjacent to Bangor.
It opened in 2003 and is a must stop in Bangor.
- There are many sites offering tips
about Acadia National Park, including sites from
National
Geographic, the
National Wildlife Foundation,
Outdoor
Places, and the
National Park Service.
